Chihuahua puppy born with love-heart pattern

Image
This chihuahua puppy literally wears its heart on its sleeve. The cute male pooch, born with a perfect heart-shaped patch on its side, has been suitably named Heartkun by its owner in northern Japan. The one-and-a-half-month-old pup was born as one of a big litter, but is the only new arrival to sport such a heart-warming coat. According to owner Emiko Sakurada, this is the first occasion a puppy with such marks had been born out of the more than one thousand chihuahuas she has bred.

Baby Gorilla Admitted To Hospital

Image
A six-week-old baby gorilla is being treated in a German paediatric intensive care unit after being rejected by its mother. Mary Zwo was admitted to Muenster University Hospital after staff at the local zoo found her dehydrated, with low blood sugar levels and on the verge of hypothermia. Her mother Gana, who appeared to care for her baby very well at first, had started neglecting Mary Zwo after she was separated from other gorillas at the zoo. Advertisement The mother and baby had been segregated following several incidents in which the father, N'Kwango, had attacked the baby gorilla severely, the zoo said in a statement. According to the hospital, Mary Zwo 's condition is currently stable, although she still has some difficulties drinking from a bottle. The zoo said she was admitted to a hospital for humans because a veterinarian clinic would not have been able to provide her with the level of care required. © ALLWETTERZOO MUENSTER/AFP PHOTO

White Bengal Tiger Splash Show

Image
The six-year-old male Bengal regularly dives into a large glass-fronted tank to gobble up chunks of meat in front of amazed crowds at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Zoo in Vallejo, near San Francisco. He is about 10ft long from nose to tail, and is an excellent swimmer. White tigers - the colour is caused by an unusual genetic combination - are rare in the wild, although there are several dozen in zoos. Odin was hand-raised at the zoo. And after he was weaned, his British trainer Lee Munro discovered his remarkable skill: when a lump of meat was thrown into a pool of water, Odin would happily dive in after it. In fact, although Big Cats generally do not like water, tigers of all types have been spotted taking to the water to hunt and even to bathe for pleasure. Odin can now be observed in action - a large pool with glass walls has been constructed at the zoo to allow visitors to watch him gliding through the water with all the grace of a polar bear. Tragically, within our lifetimes, zo...
